ARK is a platform that enables users to create their own customizable and interoperable blockchains using cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. It simplifies the process by avoiding smart contracts, instead using custom transactions and various programming languages. Founded in mid-2016, ARK held a token exchange campaign later that year, raising $800K in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, which provided solid financial backing. The ARK Public Network went live on March 21, 2017, hosting the native ARK token. The business entity behind it, ARK ECOSYSTEM SCIC, is commonly known as ARK.io. The ecosystem includes an open-source stack written in TypeScript, with the public network serving as a live example of the technology.
ARK aims to make blockchain technology more accessible and easier to use for developers. The ARK Core Framework provides a backbone for networks, handling peer-to-peer operations, database management, APIs, and custom logic. The Generic Transaction Interface (GTI) allows developers to create custom transaction types without learning a complex new language, as it works with TypeScript. This approach is similar to building decentralized applications on Ethereum but without the need for Solidity. By enabling the creation of sovereign, interoperable blockchains, ARK addresses scalability concerns and offers a more straightforward development experience.
ARK is not mined; it is forged by 51 elected delegates who run the network. Each block, created every eight seconds, generates 2 ARK, which goes to the forging delegate. Token holders vote for delegates, with 1 ARK equal to 1 vote per address, preventing centralization. Users can vote using the ARK Desktop or Mobile wallets, and their ARK is not locked during voting. The staking rewards are managed by each delegate individually, with unique reward systems. The ARK team does not operate the public network, ensuring decentralization.
ARK can be purchased on any cryptocurrency exchange that lists it. The latest exchanges and trading pairs are available on the ARK website or the market pairs tab. ARK can be stored on exchanges, in ARK wallets, multi-asset wallets, crypto debit card wallets, or Ledger hardware wallets. Additionally, the ARK Desktop Wallet supports downloadable exchange plugins for convenience.

The ecosystem includes an open-source technology stack written in TypeScript, with the public network serving as a live implementation. It supports special transaction types such as multi-payment, multisignature, and IPFS hash transactions. The ARK Launcher product enables blockchain creation through a graphical interface. The ARK Core Framework provides a backbone for network operations, including peer-to-peer functions, ledger management, and API access, while the Generic Transaction Interface allows developers to build custom transaction types without learning a new language.
ARK cannot be mined; instead, it is forged by elected delegates on a delegated proof-of-stake blockchain with 51 forging slots and eight-second block times. Each forged block generates 2 ARK for the validating delegate. Token holders vote for delegates, with one ARK equal to one vote per wallet address, and voting does not lock funds. Delegates manage their own reward systems, and the ARK team does not operate the public network.
