What is ARPA?
ARPA is a decentralized network focused on secure computation, aiming to enhance the fairness, security, and privacy of blockchain systems. Its core technology is a threshold BLS signature network, which serves as the underlying infrastructure for various applications, including verifiable random number generators, secure wallets, cross-chain bridges, and decentralized custody solutions.
The project originated in 2018 as ARPA Chain, a privacy-focused multi-party computation network. Over time, it completed over 224,000 computation tasks, and this experience contributed to the development of its current threshold BLS signature scheme. The first application built on this infrastructure is Randcast, a verifiable random number generator that provides a cryptographically secure and tamper-proof source of randomness. This service is designed for use cases such as gaming, lotteries, NFT minting, and blockchain validator task distribution, offering a low-cost alternative for generating random numbers.
