What is Aster?

Aster is a decentralized perpetual exchange platform designed to offer non-custodial trading alongside features such as hidden orders and support for multiple blockchain networks. The platform was formed in late 2024 through the merger of Astherus and APX Finance, with holders of the former APX token given the option to convert their holdings into the new ASTER token.

The platform aims to bridge the gap between centralized and decentralized exchanges, allowing traders to retain full custody of their assets while providing access to deep liquidity and trading tools typically found on centralized venues. It supports perpetual contracts for cryptocurrencies and U.S. stocks, offering leverage of up to 100x, with all transactions settled on-chain in cryptocurrency without reliance on traditional financial systems.

Aster provides two trading modes to suit different user preferences. Simple Mode is designed for ease of use, offering one-click execution, protection against MEV, and leverage up to 1001x, while Pro Mode presents a full order book with advanced options such as automated grid trading and hidden orders that are not revealed until executed. The platform operates on BNB Chain, Ethereum, Solana, and Arbitrum without requiring cross-chain bridges, and it pools liquidity across these networks to facilitate large trades with reduced price impact. Users can also deposit yield-generating assets like asBNB or USDF as collateral, earning passive returns while trading, which aims to improve capital efficiency compared to platforms where collateral remains idle.

The platform has received support from YZi Labs, formerly known as Binance Labs, which holds a minority stake through a private fund managing over $10 billion on behalf of early Binance executives. Changpeng Zhao, Binance's founder, serves in an advisory capacity and has personally invested over $2.5 million in ASTER tokens. The ASTER token functions include governance participation, staking rewards via liquidity provision, and earning incentives through a points program for traders and liquidity providers.
