BEAM is a privacy-focused decentralized finance platform that combines two blockchain technologies: LelantusMW and Mimblewimble. Early in crypto's history, many thought public blockchains like Bitcoin offered anonymity, but blockchain analysis soon showed transactions could be traced. To address this, BEAM introduced methods to enhance transaction, balance, and identity privacy. The network operates on Mimblewimble and was launched in March 2018.
Key team members include Alexander Zaidelson, Alex Romanov, and Amir Aaronson. Zaidelson, the CEO, began as a software developer, advises startups, and founded the P2P file-sharing company Nareos. Romanov, the CTO, has managed large teams on complex projects. Aaronson, the COO, has co-founded multiple tech companies in addition to his work at Beam.
Beam enables secure, stable, and reliable transactions between financial parties, reducing data mismanagement and enhancing system cleanliness and security. Its blockchain is built from scratch in C++. User addresses remain confidential, never shared with third parties, and users have full control over their privacy, deciding who sees what. Beam also supports specialized transactions like escrow, atomic swaps, and time-locked ones.
Beam's maximum supply is capped at 262,800,000 tokens. As of February 2021, approximately 81,970,000 were in circulation.
Beam relies on the Equihash proof-of-work algorithm, selected for its ability to handle substantial data volumes.
BEAM is available on several major exchanges, including Binance, BitForex, Gate.io, Hotbit, and CoinEx. For guidance on purchasing Bitcoin, refer to our guide.
Beam is a decentralized finance platform focused on confidentiality, operating through a combination of the LelantusMW and Mimblewimble blockchain protocols. It was launched in March 2018 and built from scratch using the C++ programming language. The project was developed in response to the growing ability of blockchain analysis to trace transactions on public networks, which raised privacy concerns for users. Beam aims to address this by enhancing the anonymity of transactions, address balances, and user identities.
