Celer is a protocol designed to enable a one-click user experience for accessing tokens, NFTs, governance, and other digital assets across multiple blockchain networks. It aims to allow developers to build inter-chain-native applications that benefit from efficient liquidity utilization, coherent application logic, and shared states. For users, this means interacting with a diverse multi-blockchain ecosystem through a simple, single-transaction interface from one chain.
The project was founded in 2018 by a team of four engineers, all of whom hold PhDs in Computer Science from institutions such as MIT, UC Berkeley, Princeton, and UIUC. Their professional backgrounds include work at major technology companies, with experience in areas like network formal verification, datacenter infrastructure, distributed systems, and online learning algorithms.
Technically, Celer employs smart contracts deployed on each chain, paired with the State Guardian Network (SGN), a Tendermint-based blockchain, to achieve cross-chain interoperability. Messages or contract invocations are sent to a Message Bus contract on the source chain, validated by the SGN through consensus, and then relayed to the destination chain via an Executor. The destination chain's Message Bus contract verifies the message and triggers the corresponding logic.
The CELR token has a maximum supply of 10 billion, allocated across mining rewards, the team, foundation, marketing, and a sale. Its utilities include staking within the SGN to become a State Guardian, participating in staking or delegation to earn rewards, and voting on network governance.
