Cheems is a memecoin that launched on May 12, 2021, and is the first to feature the famous Cheems meme, which involves a Shiba Inu named Balltze known for humorous misspellings. It is one of the earliest memecoins on the Solana blockchain. The project has a community that values free speech and aims to challenge norms. Unlike many short-lived memecoins, Cheems has persisted, partly due to community-driven projects like Cheems Arena, a video game. It also inspired Bonk, a later meme variant. Cheems emphasizes its lasting impact in the crypto space.
The founder of Cheems goes by the pseudonym SatoCheems and remains anonymous, though they are active in the crypto community under the Twitter handle @K3RMITCRYPTO. SatoCheems initially proposed Cheems as a joke in April 2021, but positive feedback from the Solana community led to its development. By staying anonymous, SatoCheems aims to show that the project is community-controlled rather than led by a single individual. This approach is similar to Bitcoin's creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, and adds mystery to Cheems' origins while aligning with decentralized principles.
CHEEMS started with a total supply of 7 billion tokens at its launch on May 12, 2021, but burns have reduced this to about 2.44 billion. The distribution included airdrops to the Solana community: the first airdrop gave 369,685.767 tokens to 4,596 members, and the second gave 185,000 tokens to 2,025 members, totaling over 2.07 billion tokens, which is about 84.92% of the supply. The rest was allocated to liquidity, marketing, and original contributors. After a security issue with Solana wallets, some tokens were frozen as a precaution, but the team later renounced the freeze authority.
Cheems can be purchased on several decentralized exchanges that operate on the Solana network, including Jupiter, Orca, and Raydium, among others.
With a total supply of about 2.39 billion tokens, reaching $1 would require a market capitalization of roughly $2.39 billion. For context, Dogecoin achieved a market cap of $82.36 billion in 2021, so such a valuation is possible but would be a significant milestone for Cheems.
Cheems is a memecoin inspired by the Shiba Inu dog known as Balltze, whose distinctive expressions and playful language quirks gained global internet fame. Launched on May 12, 2021, it was among the first meme-based tokens introduced on the Solana blockchain. The project emerged from a joke shared on Twitter in April 2021 by an anonymous founder using the pseudonym SatoCheems. Following positive feedback from the Solana community, the concept was developed into a full token. The founder's anonymity is intended to emphasize community ownership and decentralization, drawing a parallel to the ethos of Bitcoin's creator.
The Cheems ecosystem includes community-driven projects such as Cheems Arena, a video game, and other initiatives that aim to expand the token's utility. The token's supply has been reduced from an initial 7 billion to approximately 2.44 billion through burning. A significant portion, over 84%, was distributed via airdrops to early Solana participants, while the remainder was allocated to liquidity, marketing, and original contributors. Following a security incident affecting Solana's Slope wallets, a portion of tokens was frozen as a precaution, though this was not a targeted attack on Cheems. The freeze authority has since been renounced.
