Creditcoin is a blockchain project that was introduced in April 2019 by a team spread across the United States, Canada, South Korea, Nigeria, and Estonia. The initiative focuses on creating a credit system for individuals in emerging markets who lack access to traditional banking services. Those without bank accounts often rely on non-bank lenders, but their repayment histories with these lenders are typically not recognized by formal banks due to trust issues with the data.
To address this, Creditcoin records credit transactions on a public blockchain, providing an objective and verifiable history of borrowing and repayment activity. By making this information transparent and accessible, the project aims to bridge the gap between non-bank lending and formal financial institutions, potentially enabling greater financial inclusion for underserved populations.
