Monad is a Layer 1 blockchain built for high performance, with a focus on overcoming the scalability issues seen in networks like Ethereum. It maintains full compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine, allowing developers to use existing smart contracts and standard tools without needing to make changes.
The network is engineered for high throughput, aiming to process up to 10,000 transactions per second with rapid finality. It achieves this through several technical mechanisms, including parallel execution of transactions and a custom consensus mechanism called MonadBFT. The system also separates transaction execution from the consensus process and uses a specialized database, MonadDB, to manage state efficiently. These design choices are intended to increase capacity and lower operational requirements for nodes, which could lead to significantly reduced transaction fees compared to more congested platforms.
