Electra Protocol is an open-source, proof-of-stake blockchain platform designed to facilitate fast and secure cryptocurrency transactions at a lower-than-average processing fee. The project is community-driven, with a global team of coordinators and developers, and its native token is XEP. The stated goal is to position XEP as a widely used payment option that functions as digital money without the complexities associated with traditional payment infrastructure.
The project’s flagship product, ElectraPay, is a payment solution intended for e-commerce merchants seeking cryptocurrency-based alternatives to conventional payment systems. It aims to allow merchants to process transactions without relying on banks, credit card companies, or payment service providers. According to the project, this system offers benefits such as reduced transaction fees, faster access to funds, and security provided by the Electra Protocol blockchain. On the customer side, ElectraPay includes an automatic refund feature in case of transaction issues.
Beyond payments, Electra Protocol is exploring additional use cases. A pilot project with a food production company is testing the blockchain for supply chain traceability, with initial feedback from international customers reported as positive. The team is also developing a business model to provide partners with software tools for monetizing the technology, and has established initial contacts with European companies. Electra Protocol is a member of the Electronic Transactions Association, alongside companies such as Google, Amazon, and Apple, and participates in committees focused on payment technologies.
