ETHPoW (ETHW) is a hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain that occurred at the time of the Ethereum Merge. While Ethereum transitioned to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, this fork continues to operate on the original proof-of-work model.
The EthereumPoW project is backed by a global community of individuals who either favor proof-of-work over proof-of-stake or wish to maintain both options for developers and users on the Ethereum network.
EthereumPoW replicated the state of Ethereum at the block height of the Merge. This allows decentralized application developers and stablecoin issuers to decide which chain to support. Additionally, it enables copying application states, potentially doubling the number of DApps and the liquidity available on EthereumPoW.
Since ETHW forked from Ethereum, it initially had the same circulating supply as proof-of-stake Ethereum. However, the ETH 2.0 staking contract only allows deposits, not withdrawals, so the staked ETH cannot be moved to EthereumPoW. As a result, the circulating supply of ETHW is reduced by 13,712,994.
ETHPoW uses the same proof-of-work mechanism that Ethereum mainnet relied on before the Merge. The difficulty bomb, which was scheduled to increase mining difficulty, has been completely removed, allowing ETHPoW to continue being mined.
ETHW is available for trading on most major cryptocurrency exchanges.
EthereumPoW (ETHW) is a hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain that emerged during the Ethereum Merge. While Ethereum transitioned to a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, this forked version continues to operate on the original proof-of-work model. The project is supported by a global community that favors proof-of-work or wishes to maintain both options for developers and users on the Ethereum network.
At the time of the fork, EthereumPoW cloned the state of Ethereum at the Merge block height. This allows decentralized application developers and stablecoin issuers to decide which chain to support, and copying application states could potentially double the number of DApps and liquidity on EthereumPoW. The network retains the same proof-of-work mechanism used by Ethereum before the Merge, with the difficulty bomb removed to enable continued mining.
The initial circulating supply of ETHW mirrored that of proof-of-stake Ethereum, but it is reduced by 13,712,994 tokens. This reduction occurs because staked ETH in the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract cannot be withdrawn on EthereumPoW, as that contract only supports deposits. ETHW is available for trading on most major exchanges.
