What is FIO Protocol?

FIO Protocol is a decentralized, open-source platform designed to simplify cryptocurrency transactions across different blockchains. It replaces complex wallet addresses with customizable, human-readable identifiers known as FIO Crypto Handles, which follow a username@domain format. These handles can be used for sending, receiving, requesting, and signing transactions involving various cryptocurrencies, aiming to reduce errors associated with long-string addresses. The protocol integrates with decentralized applications and claims support from a network of over 75 wallets, exchanges, marketplaces, payment processors, and gaming platforms, including its own application.

The native utility token, FIO, powers transaction fees and governance on the protocol's delegated proof-of-stake blockchain, the FIO Chain. A tokenized version, WFIO, operates on the Ethereum blockchain and is backed by FIO at a 1:1 ratio, allowing for liquidity transfer between the FIO and Ethereum networks in a decentralized manner. WFIO follows ERC-20 standards for integration with the Ethereum ecosystem.

FIO Crypto Handles are nested NFTs secured by private keys, with no renewal fees and an initial bundle of 100 transactions. FIO Domains enable users to customize handle endings and can be wrapped as ERC-721 tokens on Polygon for NFT marketplace trading. Additional features include FIO Requests for initiating payment requests with encrypted metadata, and FIO Data for storing transaction metadata on-chain, both using Diffie-Hellman key exchange for security.
