What is GateToken?
GateToken (GT) is the native token of GateChain, a public blockchain focused on digital asset transfers and emphasizing asset safety. The token serves primarily as a means of paying transaction fees on the network, though holders can also stake it to participate in transaction validation and network security, earning rewards in return.
GateChain provides an integrated on-chain wallet, allowing users to manage their digital assets directly on the network without relying on third-party wallet services. The platform is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), enabling the deployment of Ethereum-based smart contracts. It also supports Ethereum's 0x address format, letting users operate assets across both networks with a single address. The network reports a block time of four seconds, a transaction throughput of up to 2,745 transactions per second, and transaction fees as low as $0.0001.

The project was launched in 2018 by Gate.io, a global cryptocurrency exchange headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, and was founded by Thomas Kofler and Wassilios Lytras. As of June 2023, approximately 97,810,057 GT tokens were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 300,000,000. The network uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, where validators stake GT to secure the chain and process transactions. Additional safety features include an on-chain safety account and customizable time-delay recovery options designed to protect assets even if private keys are compromised. GT is listed on several exchanges, including Gate.io, Huobi, LBank, and Bitfinex.
