IOST is a multichain infrastructure focused on tokenizing real-world assets and enabling Web3 payments. With over seven years of blockchain development and more than 930 million transactions processed, it aims to connect traditional finance with decentralized systems across various blockchain networks.
The team includes members from Princeton, Harvard, CMU, and MIT. Key figures are Terry Wang, Arthur Tang, and Blake Jeong. Wang previously worked as a software engineer at Uber and holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and Princeton. Tang co-founded two unicorn startups and was a quantitative trader at Citadel, with degrees from UIUC and Harvard. Blake has been CEO since 2019, with prior experience in venture capital and BCG.
IOST stands out as a Layer 2 solution on BNB Chain, designed for financial markets. Its Liquidity Engine separates tokenized bonds into principal and yield components, enhancing capital efficiency. By operating on BNB Chain's settlement layer and using L2 optimization, it offers faster and cheaper tokenization of various assets. The payment system achieves sub-second latency through batching, combining BNB Chain's security with commercial-grade performance, bridging institutional finance and blockchain.
Initially launched in 2018 with 21 billion tokens, IOST has an annual inflation rate of about 3% and a hard cap of 90 billion. In January 2025, the community approved a proposal to create 21.32 billion new BEP-20 tokens on BNB Chain, to be unlocked gradually until March 2030. By March 2025, about 44 billion IOST had been minted, with 22 billion in circulation.
IOST is designed for enterprise use, claiming to handle heavy loads from major tech companies like Amazon, Google, and Facebook. The project's success seems to rely significantly on partnerships.
IOST is available on numerous exchanges, including Binance, Upbit, Coincheck, Bithumb, OKX, Bitget, BitPoint, and others.

IOST operates as a specialized Layer 2 solution on BNB Chain, featuring a Liquidity Engine that separates tokenized bonds into principal (P-Bonds) and yield (Y-Bonds) components. This design aims to enhance capital efficiency while preserving investment rights. The system processes transactions with sub-second latency, leveraging BNB Chain's security while offering lower costs and faster throughput than typical Layer 1 networks.
The project launched in 2018 with 21 billion tokens and an annual inflation rate of approximately 3%, with a hard cap of 90 billion. In January 2025, the community approved a proposal to create a BNB Chain Layer 2 with an additional 21.32 billion tokens in BEP-20 format, scheduled for gradual release until March 2030. As of March 2025, around 44 billion IOST tokens have been minted, with 22 billion in circulation. The token is available on multiple exchanges, including Binance, Upbit, and OKX.
