IoTeX is a blockchain platform designed for Real-World AI, providing verified real-time data from physical devices to AI systems and decentralized applications. Since its inception in 2017, it has supported over 100 projects and 40 million devices in sectors like mobility, robotics, energy, and health. The platform comprises an EVM-compatible Layer 1 with Roll-DPoS consensus, a decentralized identity system (ioID), a real-time data interface (Quicksilver), and the IOTX token used for transactions, staking, and governance. It collaborates with notable partners such as Google, Samsung, IEEE, ARM, and Nordic Semiconductor.
IoTeX was founded in 2017 by a team of experts in cryptography and engineering. Raullen Chai, the CEO, previously led cryptography R&D at Uber and holds a PhD in cryptography. Qevan Guo, Head of Ecosystem, is a former research scientist at Facebook with a PhD in machine learning. Jing Sun, Head of Investment & Business Development, is a partner at Sparkland Capital. Xinxin Fan, Head of Cryptography, previously worked as a senior research engineer at Bosch Research and holds a PhD in computer engineering.
IoTeX stands out because it was specifically built to integrate real-world devices, data, and AI into a blockchain ecosystem. Unlike general-purpose blockchains, its architecture was designed from the start to verify data from physical devices for use in decentralized applications and intelligent systems. A key innovation is Realms, data primitives that function as evolving knowledge bases, allowing AI to access real-time, verified information. IoTeX's Roll-DPoS consensus achieves high throughput of up to 2,000 transactions per second and a Nakamoto coefficient of 9, indicating greater decentralization than Ethereum.
The IOTX token is used for gas fees, staking, and governance on the IoTeX network. At the mainnet launch in 2019, a total supply of 10 billion IOTX was created. As of August 2025, the circulating supply is approximately 9.6 billion IOTX. Currently, over 3.6 billion IOTX (about 38% of supply) is staked by the community to support network security and validator operations.
IOTX can be purchased on numerous centralized and decentralized exchanges. Major platforms include Binance (with USDT, BTC, ETH, and BNB pairs), Coinbase (available in the U.S. with USD and USDT pairs), Kraken (offering spot and perpetual futures), Upbit, KuCoin, Gate.io, and HashKey Exchange in Hong Kong, which provides a regulated fiat on-ramp and an IOTX/HKD trading pair. Additionally, IOTX can be stored and staked in various wallets, including the official IoTeX wallet, OKX Wallet, and over 15 third-party Web3 wallets that support the network.
IoTeX is a blockchain platform focused on integrating real-world data with artificial intelligence systems. Since its establishment in 2017, the project has built infrastructure designed to deliver verified, real-time information from physical devices to AI applications and decentralized networks. The platform supports over 100 projects and more than 40 million devices across sectors including mobility, robotics, energy, and healthcare.
The technology stack includes an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain using a Roll-DPoS consensus mechanism, a decentralized identity system called ioID, and Quicksilver, a data interface that verifies and structures physical-world information for AI use. The native IOTX token facilitates transactions, staking, and governance. The network reports throughput of up to 2,000 transactions per second and a Nakamoto coefficient of 9, indicating a higher level of decentralization compared to Ethereum.
The project was founded by a team with backgrounds in cryptography, machine learning, and venture capital, including individuals previously affiliated with Uber, Facebook, and Bosch Research. A notable feature is "Realms," which are described as evolving knowledge bases that organize verified data into domain-specific environments for AI consumption. As of August 2025, the circulating supply of IOTX is approximately 9.6 billion out of a maximum supply of 10 billion.
