IRISnet is a blockchain-based service protocol and cryptocurrency, launched on March 1, 2019. Its goal is to create an open network for small and medium-sized businesses offering various services. According to its whitepaper, IRISnet aims to integrate public and consortium blockchains to bring decentralized benefits to businesses and freelance providers. The name IRISnet is inspired by Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods.
IRISnet stands out by targeting small business operations, unlike many consortium blockchains controlled by large corporations. It recently introduced IRITA, an enterprise blockchain with flexible digital asset modeling and privacy-focused data authorization. A key feature is combining on-chain transactions with off-chain data processing and business logic. IRISnet also offers a smart wallet designed for business use.
IRISnet's initial token supply was two billion IRIS tokens, allocated as follows: 25% for private sale, 15% to the Bianjie AI team, 15% for the IRIS Foundation, 30% for ecosystem development, 5% for a Cosmos Hub Airdrop, and 25% to the Tendermint team (vested after launch). Proceeds from the private sale are primarily intended for network improvement and development.
IRISnet uses a delegated proof-of-stake (dPoS) consensus mechanism based on Tendermint. In dPoS, stakeholders delegate to trusted validators who process transactions. The system relies on node reputation, penalizing misbehavior and removing unreliable validators. This ensures that validators perform accurately to maintain network integrity.
IRISnet can be purchased on exchanges like Binance and Hotbit. As of January 2021, Binance had processed approximately $2,226,424 in IRIS trades, while Hotbit had around $148,196. These platforms offer liquidity for acquiring IRIS tokens.

Its stated goal is to create an open network for small and medium-sized businesses offering a range of services. According to its whitepaper, the project aims to combine public and consortium blockchains to connect businesses and freelance service providers with decentralized networks. The name is derived from Iris, the Greek mythological figure associated with rainbows and messages.
The protocol is designed to integrate both on-chain and off-chain operations. While transactions are recorded on the blockchain, data processing and business logic are handled off-chain. The project also includes IRITA, an enterprise-focused blockchain offering digital asset modeling and privacy-oriented data authorization. A smart wallet for business use is among its other products.
