What is a tokenized stock?

MAX is a crypto token whose price tracks Mastercard Incorporated (MA) shares. It is not the share itself. How it is structured depends on the issuer — some tokens are backed one-for-one by real shares held in custody, others are synthetic and simply follow the price. Check the issuing exchange's terms before trading.

Holding a tokenized stock does not usually grant shareholder rights — no voting, and dividends are handled differently or not at all. You are exposed to the issuer and the exchange as well as to the share price.

Information only, not investment advice. Tokenized equities carry issuer and counterparty risk, and availability is restricted in many jurisdictions.

What is Mastercard Incorporated?

MAX is a utility token introduced in October 2018 for use on the MAX exchange, a digital asset platform operated by the MaiCoin Group in Taiwan. Holders can use the token to receive discounts on trading fees and participate in staking. The exchange allocates a portion of its fees to buy back MAX tokens from the open market, with these tokens subsequently distributed to stakers and holders as a reward mechanism.

The token has a circulating supply of 4.83 million units, with a total cap set at 500 million. It is traded on multiple centralized exchanges and is also integrated with various blockchain projects, including Aergo, AirDAO, and Asia-Coin. The token operates on the Binance Smart Chain and relies on smart contracts for transaction execution.

Security measures implemented by the exchange include SSL encryption for online data transmission, offline storage for the majority of assets, and two-factor authentication for user accounts. As with digital assets generally, the token's value can be subject to volatility, and potential users are advised to conduct their own research before engaging with the platform.
