Spacecoin is a project working on a satellite-based, decentralized internet network. Its stated aim is to offer reliable and permissionless connectivity worldwide. The initiative involves deploying a constellation of small, blockchain-enabled satellites in low-Earth orbit to transmit data directly to users, reducing dependence on conventional infrastructure like cell towers and fiber-optic cables. The project targets the 2.6 billion people globally who have never accessed the internet, as well as an additional 3.5 billion who currently have limited access.
The network is designed as an open system, allowing anyone to contribute satellites and share operational costs. Planned services are intended for markets such as Nigeria, Indonesia, and India, with projected costs as low as $1-2 per user per month. The first satellite, designated CTC-0, was launched in December 2024, followed by a three-satellite mission, CTC-1, in November 2025.
