What is AB?
AB is a blockchain project that originated as the Newton Project, launched in 2018 with the goal of building infrastructure for a community-driven economy. The initial phase of development focused on decentralized systems to support such economic models. In 2025, the project was rebranded as AB, marking a shift toward a more advanced ecosystem centered on heterogeneous blockchain infrastructure, real-world asset integration, and refined tokenomics. The AB token serves as the native cryptocurrency of the AB blockchain, functioning as the gas for transactions, smart contract execution, and governance.
The underlying technology includes NewChain, a blockchain with a main chain and sub chain structure, operating on a Proof of Authority consensus mechanism. This design aims to provide scalability and efficiency while reducing energy consumption compared to proof-of-work systems. Additional components include New Net for distributed storage and New IOT, which incorporates multiple sensors. The Hyper Exchange Protocol is designed to support decentralized applications in areas such as digital identity, supply chain, and digital marketing, with New Mall cited as an initial application.

The project also has a separate identity in Canada, where Newton operates as a cryptocurrency trading platform registered with regulatory bodies, offering access to over 70 digital currencies. The platform includes customer support features and is described as a low-cost option for trading.
