What is Oort?
Oort Foundation, established in May 2021, focuses on developing decentralized artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The organization aims to build an AI ecosystem that is transparent and inclusive, emphasizing the use of diverse data sources to reduce bias. The foundation launched its Layer-1 Olympus Protocol mainnet in late 2023 and has since initiated various ecosystem projects, including the HumanAIx Alliance and data partnerships with enterprises in Asia. Its stated mission is to support trustworthy AI through a decentralized cloud infrastructure.
The project's approach involves decentralizing the AI development pipeline. This includes community-based data collection and labeling, collaborative model training using global computing networks, and the deployment of AI models on user devices. The foundation offers several products, such as OORT DataHub for data tasks, OORT Storage for encrypted cloud file storage, and OORT Compute, which aggregates distributed GPU resources, with a broader release planned for 2025.

The network operates using a proof of honesty (PoH) consensus algorithm within its Olympus Protocol, connecting various node types, including super nodes, archiving nodes, and edge nodes. The native OORT token is used for payments, staking, and governance within the ecosystem. The final major investor token unlock occurred in 2025, with subsequent scheduled releases continuing at a slower pace.
