What is Optimism?
Optimism is a network of interconnected blockchains known as the Superchain, all built on the open-source OP Stack. The first chain, OP Mainnet, was joined by several other prominent networks that use this framework, including Base, Unichain, Ink, and World Chain. This technology has become a widely adopted standard for Ethereum Layer 2 solutions, supporting a significant portion of current Layer 2 activity.
Each chain within the Superchain contributes to the Optimism Collective under a standardized revenue-sharing model. They pay back to the collective the greater of either 2.5% of total chain revenue or 15% of onchain profit, where profit is calculated as fees minus Layer 1 gas costs. This system aligns economic incentives, aiming to create a sustainable model for scaling Ethereum by offering fast and low-cost transactions while supporting ecosystem growth.
