Orbs is a public blockchain platform designed to support large-scale applications, offering scalability, low fees, and high performance. It provides a full blockchain stack and operates as a decentralized, transparent network suitable for enterprises and consumer applications. The ORBS token is used to pay for services and incentivize validators, ensuring network integrity. Founded in 2017 by experienced developers and entrepreneurs, Orbs uses blockchain virtualization and randomized proof-of-stake to achieve scalability.
Orbs was founded by four individuals: Daniel Peled, Tal Kol, Netta Korin, and Uriel Peled. Daniel Peled serves as president and is also a co-founder of PayKey. Tal Kol, an expert in blockchain, previously led engineering at Kin and co-founded Appixia. Netta Korin has a background in investment banking and philanthropy, having advised in the Israeli government. Uriel Peled is a consultant in blockchain projects and holds an electrical engineering degree from Technion.
Orbs stands out by complementing existing Ethereum standards, allowing decentralized applications to leverage both chains simultaneously. This integration provides DApps with enhanced security, liquidity, low transaction costs, scalability, and access to payment infrastructure.
Orbs is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, used for payments and governance. The total supply is fixed at 10 billion tokens, generated through a process called priming. The distribution allocates 55% to long-term reserves, 20% to private sales, 20% to the team and founding partners, and 5% to advisors.
The Orbs network relies on a proof-of-stake ecosystem, specifically randomized proof-of-stake (RPoS), to ensure security and efficiency. Each consensus round selects small random committees from a set of validators, enhancing decentralization and security. This model, known as Helix, is Byzantine fault-tolerant and scalable, with guardians and delegators using stakes to choose validators.
As of July 2021, ORBS is available on several centralized and decentralized exchanges, including Bithumb, KuCoin, Bittrex, OKEx, Indodax, ProBit Global, Upbit, Hotbit, Bilaxy, Coinone, Huobi Korea, LiteBit.eu, Bitsonic, KyberDMM, BHEX, and Bitbns. Its market share at that time was 0.01% of the total cryptocurrency market.
Orbs is a public blockchain infrastructure designed to support large-scale applications while aiming to balance scalability, low fees, performance, security, and usability. The platform provides a decentralized and transparent network intended for enterprise and consumer use cases, offering a complete blockchain stack. Smart contracts on Orbs are designed to complement existing Ethereum standards, allowing decentralized applications to operate across both chains and potentially benefit from security, liquidity, and payment infrastructure.
The ORBS token functions as the platform's primary payment method, used to pay for services from infrastructure operators and to participate in network governance. It also plays a role in validator selection through an incentive system. The total fixed supply is 10 billion tokens, distributed with 55% allocated to long-term reserves, 20% to private sales, 20% to the team and founding partners, and 5% to advisors.
Orbs was founded in 2017 by a team including Daniel Peled, Tal Kol, Netta Korin, and Uriel Peled, who have backgrounds in technology, finance, and entrepreneurship. The network uses a consensus mechanism called randomized proof-of-stake, which involves selecting validators through small random committees to achieve consensus. This model, known as Helix, is described as Byzantine fault-tolerant and scalable, with guardians and delegators using stakes to choose validators. The platform has also pursued integrations with decentralized exchanges as part of its involvement in the DeFi ecosystem.
