peaq is an economic system that enables machines to transact across different blockchain networks. It acts as a neutral coordination layer, providing robots, vehicles, devices, sensors, and AI agents with the tools to become autonomous economic participants, including verifiable identities, wallets, reputation, tokenization, and cross-chain settlement. It is chain-neutral, allowing machines to exist across multiple chains simultaneously, so any application can interact with them without rebuilding infrastructure. The goal is to make machines financially autonomous for human benefit, fostering a Machine Economy where value is shared among people.
peaq operates through three layers. The Machine Layer (peaqOS) is the entry point for machines to come onchain, offering identity, wallets, access control, and payment infrastructure across EVM, SVM, and Move environments. The Trust Layer ensures machines are trustworthy by managing registries and settlement, with Trust Validators verifying identities and computing reputation, backed by staked capital. The Service Layer connects machines to external service markets via a permissionless adapter framework, allowing discovery, scoring, and execution of services. Each layer can be used independently or together to form the economic foundation of the Machine Economy.
peaq's uniqueness lies in its omnichain neutrality, as it does not compete with other chains but provides a shared trust layer beneath them. It ensures trust with economic accountability, making dishonesty costly for machines by requiring staked capital and using validators to verify and arbitrate. Additionally, peaq offers a full-stack machine operating layer, covering everything from onboarding to coordination and validation, which no other system provides across all chains simultaneously.
PEAQ is used for machine activation, where machines bond tokens to access trust-tier services like reputation and settlement. It also pays coordination fees for services such as validation and orchestration, with fees distributed to validators and delegators, and can be paid in native ecosystem tokens. Validators stake PEAQ as collateral to secure the network and earn rewards. Additionally, PEAQ holders participate in governance, voting on system parameters like fees and slashing thresholds.
peaq was founded by Till Wendler, Leonard Dorlöchter, and Max Thake. The team has extensive experience in IoT and blockchain, having pioneered DePIN and shaped the Machine Economy vision. They co-developed decentralized identity and data-sharing standards with companies like Bosch, Denso, Continental, Airbus, and DLR through Gaia-X moveID. They also led DePIN in automotive with Audi within the Volkswagen Group on decentralized charging infrastructure.
Machine Money Markets are financial systems that allow machines to autonomously access lending, liquidity, yield, and credit services. With verifiable identity and performance history, machines become financeable, creating a new asset class. peaq tokenized the world's first revenue-generating robot, a vertical farming unit in Hong Kong that generates about 20% annual yield for token holders. This enables Initial Machine Offerings (IMOs) for financing, machine-native lending, insurance based on telemetry, and autonomous capital allocation.
Robot Money is any medium of exchange, measure of value, or payment method that robots and machines use across any blockchain. As machines become autonomous economic actors that earn and spend independently, Robot Money powers their economic activity. peaq is the economic system designed to enable Robot Money at scale, supporting transactions across industries and borders.
peaq is a blockchain-based economic system designed to enable machines, such as robots, vehicles, sensors, and AI agents, to operate as autonomous economic actors across multiple blockchain networks. It functions as a neutral coordination layer, allowing these machines to have verifiable identities, wallets, portable reputation, and the ability to tokenize assets, while also providing cross-chain settlement guarantees. The system is chain-neutral, meaning a machine onboarded through peaq can interact with applications on various supported chains simultaneously without requiring infrastructure rebuilding.
The platform is structured in three layers: the Machine Layer, the Trust Layer, and the Service Layer. The Machine Layer provides the tools for machines to come onchain, including identity verification and payment infrastructure, compatible with EVM, SVM, and Move environments. The Trust Layer ensures machine reliability through a network of validators who verify identities and transactions, backed by staked capital. The Service Layer connects machines to external service markets via a permissionless adapter framework, enabling discovery, scoring, and settlement of services.
PEAQ is the native token used for staking, governance, and paying coordination fees. Validators stake PEAQ as collateral to secure the network and earn rewards from protocol emissions and multi-asset fee pools. Token holders can vote on system parameters, including fee structures and slashing thresholds. The project was founded by Till.
