Pirate Chain (ARRR) is a cryptocurrency that was launched on August 29, 2018, by developers originating from the Komodo community. The project utilizes a combination of technologies, including Komodo's Delayed Proof of Work (dPoW), zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs) from ZCash, and a policy of enforced private-only transactions similar to Monero's approach. Unlike many other privacy-focused cryptocurrencies that offer optional privacy features, Pirate Chain mandates that all transactions be fully shielded, positioning itself as a 100% private send cryptocurrency and the first 'z transaction-only' chain.
The network's security is reinforced through Komodo's dPoW mechanism, which notarizes Pirate Chain's blocks onto both the Komodo and Litecoin blockchains. This system is designed to protect against 51% attacks, as an attacker would need to overcome the combined hashrates of Bitcoin, Komodo, and Pirate Chain. The project also notes that it had a fair launch, with no initial coin offering (ICO), no premine, and zero developer fees. The team claims that its enforced private-only transactions have resulted in the largest shielded private pool of funds among privacy coins.
