What is Polygon Ecosystem Token?
POL is the native token of the Polygon network, a Proof-of-Stake scaling solution designed to improve Ethereum's scalability and usability. It functions as the network's gas token, facilitating all transactions, and also serves as a staking token. In exchange for staking, participants can earn rewards and may become eligible for airdrops within the Agglayer ecosystem.
The token is used for payments and the management of tokenized assets, allowing users to issue and trade digital assets on the network. It also powers various decentralized finance (DeFi) services, including lending, borrowing, and trading, benefiting from the network's scalability and low transaction costs.

Originally named MATIC, the token was part of the Polygon network from its early stages. A major change occurred with the upgrade from MATIC to POL, which took place on September 4, 2024, aligning with the network's expanded capabilities and its GigaGas roadmap. The Polygon network has also focused on building a community of developers and users to support adoption and innovation within its ecosystem.
