Quant was launched in June 2018 with the aim of connecting blockchains and networks globally without compromising efficiency or interoperability. It is recognized as the first project to address the interoperability challenge by introducing the first blockchain operating system. The project is built on a distributed ledger technology called the Overledger Network, which serves to link different blockchain networks. Quant is described as the first operating system designed for blockchains. The primary goal of Quant, through Overledger, is to bridge the gap between various blockchains. Overledger is considered the foundation for a future digital economy. Developers can build decentralized multi-chain applications, known as MApps, using Overledger. To create a MApp, developers must hold a certain amount of Quant tokens (QNT).
Gilbert Verdian, one of the co-founders, conceived the idea for Quant while working in the healthcare sector, where he recognized the need for interoperability to ensure patients across different platforms are covered. Verdian brings over 20 years of experience in enhancing security, technology, and business strategies globally. Before Quant, he served as CISO at Vocalink, a Mastercard company, CIO of NSW Ambulance, CISO of eHealth NSW, and security lead at the UK Ministry of Justice. The other co-founder, Dr. Paolo Tasca, is an entrepreneur and digital economist specializing in distributed systems. He has advised the EU Parliament, the United Nations, and various central banks on blockchain technology. Dr. Tasca has co-authored books on fintech and co-founded the Retail Blockchain Consortium, where he also chairs the governing board.
Quant stands out by addressing the issue of interoperability among different blockchains. Its Overledger operating system acts as a gateway, enabling any blockchain-based project to access other blockchains and connect applications within the same ecosystem, such as Ethereum. Overledger provides multiple layers for interaction, including transaction, messaging, filtering, and ordering layers, along with an application layer for sharing and referencing messages across applications. The Quant App Store can read and monitor transactions across multiple ledgers. Developers can write smart contracts on various chains, even those that don't natively support them, like Bitcoin. Additionally, the store allows for the creation and deployment of multi-chain applications (MApps).
QNT is a utility token used as a payment method for Quant services, particularly for Overledger users to pay fees. Clients and developers must purchase a license and use QNT for transactions, which requires tokens to be locked for 12 months. QNT is also used to pay for running gateways and performing read/write operations on Overledger. The maximum supply of QNT is set at 14,612,493 tokens. The distribution includes 9.9 million sold to the public during the ICO, 2.6 million allocated to the company reserve, 1.3 million reserved for founders, and 651,000 for advisors. The current circulating supply is 12,072,738 QNT, with the remaining 2 million tokens held by the company, which are unlocked and could be sold or issued at any time.
Quant's security is centered on the Overledger network, which facilitates communication among DLT networks and interacts with various blockchains. Overledger includes gateways that link different blockchains. Similar to Ethereum's proof-of-stake blockchains, the Quant Network community participates in managing treasury smart contracts. The community oversees QNT payments from users to the gateways in a way that ensures accountability to any observer.
Quant tokens can be bought, sold, and traded on several exchanges, including Bilaxy, Bittrex, Bithumb Global, 1inch Exchange, Uniswap (V2), and Hotbit. QNT can be traded against cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH), stablecoins like Tether (USDT), and fiat currencies such as the euro. Coinasity shows the live QNT price, averaged across major exchanges.
Quant (QNT) is a cryptocurrency project that was introduced in June 2018, aiming to facilitate connectivity between different blockchain networks on a global scale. The project is built around an operating system called Overledger, which is described as the first blockchain operating system. Its primary purpose is to address interoperability challenges by enabling various blockchains to communicate and work together seamlessly. Overledger functions as a gateway, allowing blockchain-based projects to access other networks and applications, including those on platforms like Ethereum.
The platform enables developers to create decentralized multi-chain applications, referred to as MApps. To build these applications, developers must hold a certain amount of QNT tokens. The token serves as a utility for paying fees on the network, with requirements for locking tokens for a period of time. The total maximum supply of QNT is capped at 14,612,493 tokens, with a portion distributed during an initial coin offering.
The project was co-founded by Gilbert Verdian, who has extensive experience in security and technology roles, and Dr. Paolo Tasca, an economist specializing in distributed systems. Verdian’s background includes positions in healthcare and government sectors, where he recognized the need for interoperability. The project aims to provide a solution for connecting disparate blockchains, with Overledger offering multiple layers for transactions, messaging, and application interactions, including support for writing smart contracts across various chains.
