SKALE is a blockchain platform designed to scale AI agents and privacy-focused onchain applications. BITE (Blockchain Integrated Threshold Encryption) encrypts onchain actions at the consensus layer, protecting agent strategies, user data, and order flow while maintaining public verifiability. Additionally, SKALE provides gasless transactions, instant finality, and high throughput, making agent loops and microtransactions feel like Web2 while remaining onchain. SKALE Expand allows these capabilities to integrate with other EVM ecosystems, keeping agents close to liquidity while operating on private, scalable rails. SKALE supports protocols like x402, AP2, and ERC-8004, as well as tools like MachinePay, enabling agents to autonomously pay for APIs, data, and compute while keeping transaction flows confidential and costs predictable.
SKALE Network was founded by Jack O’Holleran and Stan Kladko, both with extensive software industry experience. O’Holleran, co-founder and CEO, is a technology entrepreneur focusing on blockchain and decentralized systems. He also serves as a strategic advisor at Aktana, a life sciences company he co-founded in 2008. His early career included roles at Good Technology and Motorola. Kladko earned a Ph.D. in physics and worked as a technology executive in Silicon Valley for 16 years before co-founding SKALE. He has also co-founded other companies, including Galactic Exchange and Cloudessa.
SKALE is specifically built to support high-performance decentralized applications that require seamless, invisible blockchain experiences. Its architecture, which includes zero gas fees, instant finality, and high throughput, makes it well-suited for applications in gaming, AI, and other computationally intensive sectors.
The total supply of SKL tokens at the launch of the SKALE Network was 4.1 billion, with a fixed maximum supply of 7 billion tokens. According to a white paper from July 2020, the initial token allocation was: 33% for validator rewards, 28.1% for delegators, 16% for the founding team, 10% for the SKALE Foundation, 7.7% for the protocol development fund, 4% for the core team pool, and 1.3% for the ecosystem fund.
SKALE is a multichain network where multiple chains pool security. While SKALE Chains do not share performance, they share security across validator sets. Each validator node can run on up to 8 chains simultaneously. Nodes are randomly assigned and rotated to enhance collusion resistance. The network uses proof-of-stake (PoS) to ensure its security.
SKL tokens can be purchased on several exchanges. The first to list SKL included Huobi, Binance, and Uniswap. For more information on converting fiat currencies to crypto, refer to relevant guides.
