Sui is a groundbreaking layer-1 platform designed to support global adoption through secure, powerful, scalable development. It leverages a novel object-centric data model and the secure Move programming language to address inefficiencies in existing blockchain architectures. Beyond strong technical foundations, Sui prioritizes user experience by eliminating blockchain interaction barriers. Innovations like zkLogin, sponsored transactions, and programmable transaction blocks create higher Web3 standards, making applications accessible and user-friendly.
Mysten Labs, the original Sui contributor, was founded by former lead architects of Meta's blockchain research team. Evan Cheng, CEO, brings 24+ years building developer-facing technology and leading teams at Apple and Facebook. Adeniyi Abiodun, CPO, led engineering and product teams across Oracle, VMware, and Facebook, with 10+ years of blockchain industry leadership. Sam Blackshear, CTO, specializes in programming language design, program verification, and developer tools, creating the Move smart contract language. George Danezis, Chief Scientist, is a University College London Professor with 20+ years experience in peer-to-peer system security and privacy. Kostas Chalkias, Chief Cryptographer, has 10+ years leading cryptography roles at Meta and R3.
Sui's innovative architecture delivers low-latency transactions with stable fees, high throughput via horizontal scaling and parallelized execution, and empowers developers with powerful Web3 application tools. Its object-oriented design revolutionizes blockchain development, enabling developers to create application-specific objects with inherent network-wide compatibility, improving asset and protocol composability. Transaction processing improvements stem from explicit dependencies, enabling parallel execution. Sui has unique consensus allowing certain transactions to bypass it entirely, completing in under half a second while maintaining throughput and stable fees. Application builders benefit from Sui's Web3 adoption solutions: native tools like zkLogin and sponsored transactions overcome wallet onboarding and transaction fee barriers. Move on Sui tailors to its object-oriented data model, combining intuitive yet powerful platforms with safe programming. Developers and users gain confidence from additional Move on Sui safeguards mitigating common smart contract exploits. Sui Wallet and zkLogin enable immediate onboarding: zkLogin creates Sui accounts via simple web logins like Google, leveraging zero-knowledge cryptography to deliver familiar web account convenience with blockchain security and ownership benefits.
SUI has a 10 billion token total supply cap, primarily securing the network and serving as unit of account and payment. SUI serves three primary purposes: proof-of-stake participation through delegated proof-of-stake selecting, incentivizing, and rewarding honest validator behavior and staking token holders; gas fee payments for executing transactions and storing data; and utility across applications including decentralized exchanges, lending and borrowing, games, and other ecosystem applications. SUI will play a crucial governance role through future on-chain voting on protocol upgrades and platform changes. The Sui storage fund shifts stake rewards across time and compensates future validators for storage costs of previously stored on-chain data. This tokenomic design enables users to store data indefinitely while fairly compensating current and future validators, ensuring long-term sustainability.
Sui uses delegated proof-of-stake to defend against sybil attacks, with validators and delegators operating similarly to other dPoS mechanisms. Sui's unique network architecture involves Narwhal, a mempool protocol efficiently managing directed acyclic graphs, and Bullshark, the consensus protocol pulling transactions from Narwhal to validate and finalize them. Specific transactions bypass consensus entirely, following the Byzantine Consistent Broadcast mechanism for sub-half-second finality with true settlement guarantees. This architecture has demonstrated over 297,000 transactions per second in testing environments.
SUI is available on numerous centralized exchanges: Binance, Coinbase, KuCoin, Bybit, Kraken, Bitfinex, and more.
SuiNS, a name service platform, assigns identifiers like alice.sui to Sui accounts, streamlining transactions by directing them to associated accounts and simplifying user experience. SuiNS names are NFTs stored in user wallets, extending Sui object ownership benefits. Users can associate avatars (also NFTs) leveraging Sui's composable object support for diverse graphical representations. SuiNS additionally supports IPFS websites for straightforward informational pages or complex dynamic sites.
