Syscoin was launched in 2014 by Sebastian Schepis, who also co-founded the company behind the Oracle Project Manager, an enterprise management system. After that venture's success, he consulted for major firms such as Lockheed-Martin, Bank of America, and Verizon Wireless. Today, the open-source project is guided by the non-profit Syscoin Foundation, with Jagdeep Sidhu serving as president and lead developer, and Michiel Näring as vice president. Meanwhile, SYS Labs, a separate entity, focuses on building key applications on the platform, including Rollux, SuperDapp, Pegasys DAO, and Luxy.
Syscoin's distinguishing feature is its blend of Bitcoin's and Ethereum's strengths on one platform. Its layer 1 uses Bitcoin's SHA-256 proof-of-work, enabling merged mining with Bitcoin, so miners can secure both networks simultaneously without extra cost. This often results in over half of Bitcoin's hashrate also supporting Syscoin. Additionally, it incorporates decentralized finality to mitigate 51% attack risks while preserving Nakamoto consensus. As a modular layer 1, it supports optimistic and ZK rollups and offers PoDA, a low-cost, censorship-resistant data availability service. Its first layer 2, Rollux, an EVM-equivalent optimistic rollup, launched in June 2023 and is central to ecosystem growth.
Syscoin (SYS) is the platform's native token, with tokenomics inspired by Ethereum's EIP-1559 but without a hard cap on supply. The total amount available changes based on protocol emission and fee burning. As of the latest data, the circulating supply stands at approximately 751.39 million SYS.
Syscoin can be purchased on several major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, MEXC Global, KuCoin, Bitmart, Huobi, and Gate.io. Coinasity shows the live SYS price, averaged across major exchanges.
Syscoin is a blockchain platform that originated in 2014, created by Sebastian Schepis, who previously co-founded a company behind an enterprise management system and later consulted for major corporations. The project is currently overseen by the non-profit Syscoin Foundation, with leadership including Jagdeep Sidhu and Michiel Näring, while SYS Labs, a separate enterprise, develops applications on the network such as Rollux, SuperDapp, Pegasys DAO, and Luxy.
The platform combines elements of Bitcoin and Ethereum on a single network. Its layer 1 uses Bitcoin's SHA-256 proof-of-work model and supports merged mining with Bitcoin, allowing miners to secure both networks simultaneously. Syscoin adds decentralized finality to reduce 51% attack risks and provides a data availability service called PoDA. Its architecture includes two blockchains: an Ethereum-compatible chain called NEVM and a Bitcoin-based UTXO chain, both using SYS as the native token. The first layer 2, Rollux, is an optimistic rollup launched in 2023.
SYS is an EIP-1559-based token with no maximum supply, relying on protocol emissions and fee burning. Its circulating supply was approximately 751 million tokens at the time of writing. The token is available on several exchanges, including Binance, MEXC Global, KuCoin, and Gate.io.
