Tellor is a decentralized oracle protocol. Oracles are essential blockchain infrastructure that bring off-chain data on-chain for smart contracts. Tellor allows data reporters to compete for TRB rewards by submitting requested data, which is then validated and stored on-chain. This system supports a variety of DeFi applications by providing reliable data in a permissionless manner.
Tellor stands out by allowing anyone to become a data reporter without permission, using open-source software. Reporters submit data to an on-chain data bank, accessible to smart contracts on supported networks like Ethereum, Polygon, and Algorand. The update frequency is determined by user tips in TRB. Additionally, data is submitted in bytes, making the oracle adaptable to many use cases. Disputes and slashing discourage incorrect reports, ensuring data integrity.
Tellor was launched in 2019 by a U.S.-based team to solve the oracle problem on Ethereum. The founders are Brenda Loya (CEO), Nick Fett (CTO), and Michael Zemrose (CSO). Brenda previously held roles at Daxia and the U.S. Department of Labor. Nick founded Daxia and worked at the U.S. Commodities Futures Trading Commission. Michael handled business development at Daxia and had a background in media and consulting.
Tellor uses its native token, TRB, to align incentives among reporters, users, and governance. Security relies on a governance contract with a dispute mechanism. Reporters must stake TRB to submit data and earn rewards. If disputed and found incorrect, they are slashed, and their stake goes to the disputer. This creates a strong deterrent against malicious behavior, and details on attack costs are available in their documentation.
Tellor (TRB) can be purchased, sold, or traded on several exchanges, including Binance, Huobi Global, OKEx, HBTC, and Dsdaq. For newcomers unfamiliar with buying Bitcoin, there are comprehensive guides available to assist in getting started with cryptocurrency purchases.
Tellor is a decentralized oracle protocol designed to bring off-chain data onto blockchain networks for use by smart contracts. Its system allows data to be requested, validated, and recorded on-chain without permission, with data reporters competing for rewards in the protocol's native token, TRB. This data serves various decentralized finance applications, and the protocol operates on networks such as Ethereum, Polygon, and Algorand.
A distinctive feature of Tellor is its permissionless reporting process, which requires no verification and is open to anyone using open-source software. Reporters are incentivized to submit accurate information, while incorrect submissions can be challenged and penalized through a dispute and slashing mechanism. Data is submitted in bytes format, offering flexibility for a wide range of use cases. The frequency of data updates depends on how much users tip the feed with TRB.
Tellor was launched in 2019 by a U.S.-based team, including co-founders Brenda Loya, Nick Fett, and Michael Zemrose. Loya serves as CEO, Fett as CTO, and Zemrose as CSO, each with prior experience in blockchain, economics, or regulatory fields. The TRB token is used to align incentives among reporters, users, and governance participants. Security is maintained through a governance contract where reporters stake TRB, and disputes can lead to slashing, with stakes transferred to successful disputers.
