Tokenised GBP (tGBP) is a stablecoin designed to maintain a one-to-one value with the British Pound Sterling. It is issued by a company registered with the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, and it is described as the first such asset of its kind. The token's stability is supported by a backing mechanism that is intended to be transparent and compliant with regulations, with full collateralisation from fiat currency and short-term zero-coupon bonds issued by HM Treasury.
The token is built for use in on-chain sterling payments and programmable transactions, allowing for direct representation of pound-denominated value on blockchain networks. It also enables access to real-world assets linked to the pound, such as tokenised bonds. The design focuses on redeemability and regulatory adherence, aiming to provide a stable digital alternative for transactions and asset exposure tied to the British currency.
