Ondo U.S. Dollar Yield (USDY) is a tokenized note issued by Ondo Finance. Its underlying assets consist of short-term U.S. Treasury securities and bank demand deposits. Rather than functioning as a traditional stablecoin, it is structured to transfer the yield generated by these assets to its holders, meaning its value gradually appreciates over time instead of remaining pegged at a fixed one-dollar rate.
The token is designed for investors outside the United States and comes with certain limitations, including transfer restrictions and a mandatory holding period following purchase. Redemptions are processed through Ondo itself, rather than being executed on the open market.
The token's worth is tied to the issuer's reserve holdings and the legal framework of the note. As a result, holding USDY entails credit exposure to Ondo and its custodians, which differs from directly owning the underlying Treasury securities.
