What is zkVerify?

zkVerify (VFY) is a Layer 1 blockchain built specifically for the verification of zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs, a technology used to enhance privacy and scalability in Web3 applications. Verifying these proofs on general-purpose blockchains can be slow and costly, limiting their adoption. zkVerify addresses this by acting as a dedicated verification layer, allowing other networks, including Layer 2 solutions and decentralized applications, to offload this resource-intensive process. This specialization aims to reduce computational burdens and lower transaction costs, enabling more efficient operations across the ecosystem.

The platform is designed to be compatible with various proof systems, such as Fflonk, Groth16, and Plonky2, which simplifies integration for developers. It is estimated to offer a potential cost reduction of over 90% for proof verification compared to general-purpose networks. The project was developed by Ellipsis Distributed Systems, with Horizen Labs serving as a lead contractor. Notable milestones include the launch of its testnet in May 2024, the introduction of a permanent testnet with staking and governance features in the first quarter of 2025, and reaching one million proof verification transactions on its testnet in July 2025.

The native token, VFY, has a total supply of 1 billion. It is used to pay transaction fees for submitting and verifying proofs, and validators stake VFY to secure the network and earn rewards. Token holders can also participate in governance decisions, and the token supports developer incentives through grants and community programs.
