WAX is a blockchain created specifically for e-commerce, launched in 2017, aiming to make transactions faster, simpler, and more secure. It operates on a delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism and is compatible with EOS. The platform offers a range of blockchain tools for building decentralized applications (DApps) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), including services like WAX Cloud Wallet, SSO, and OAUTH. It features a 500-millisecond block time and zero-fee transactions for users, along with voting rewards to encourage participation in governance and block producer selection.
WAX was founded by William Quigley and Jonathan Yantis. Quigley studied at the University of Southern California, worked at Disney, then earned an MBA from Harvard and became a venture capitalist, later serving as managing director at Idealab. He is also managing director at Magnetic. Yantis serves as COO of both WAX and OPSkins.
WAX distinguishes itself with a bridge that converts WAXP tokens to WAXE, an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. To participate in WAX tokenomics, users burn WAXP to obtain WAXE, which they then stake on an Ethereum distribution contract. Stakers receive WAXG, an ERC-20 governance token, distributed over time based on the WAX Economic Activity pool. This pool accumulates a portion of WAX fees, convertible to ETH for stakers, and can also be allocated to WAXG holders who burn their tokens, enabling governance over economic value distribution.
As of February 2021, WAXP had a circulating supply of approximately 1.51 billion tokens, with a maximum supply capped at around 3.77 billion WAXP.
The WAX network relies on DPoS consensus to resist corruption from a significant minority of producers. Token holders vote for WAX guilds in a continuous approval system, with the opportunity to produce blocks. Blocks are generated every 0.5 seconds, and if a guild fails to produce a scheduled block, it is skipped, potentially creating gaps. Guilds that produce 50% or fewer of their scheduled blocks receive no rewards, discouraging negligence. Additionally, WAX provides a full suite of blockchain tools for secure trading of digital and physical items.
WAXP can be purchased on several major exchanges, including Binance, Crypto.com, Huobi Global, Upbit, HitBTC, Bithumb, and Bitfinex.
WAX (WAXP) is a blockchain network launched in 2017 with a focus on improving e-commerce transactions. It uses a delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism and is compatible with EOS. The platform provides a range of blockchain-based tools for building decentralized application (DApp) marketplaces and non-fungible tokens. Its services include a cloud wallet, single sign-on, and a native random number generator, with support for 500-millisecond block times and zero-fee transactions for customers.
The network includes a bridge that allows WAXP tokens to be converted into WAXE, an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token. Users can burn WAXP to obtain WAXE, which can then be staked. WAXG, another ERC-20 token, is distributed to WAXE stakers based on a set schedule and proportionally to the WAX Economic Activity pool. This pool accumulates a percentage of fees and can be converted to ETH for distribution. WAXG holders can govern the allocation of economic value on the platform.
The WAX network is secured by DPoS, where token holders vote for guilds to produce blocks. Blocks are generated every 0.5 seconds, and guilds that fail to produce a sufficient number of scheduled blocks do not receive rewards. As of February 2021, the circulating supply of WAXP was approximately 1.51 billion tokens, with a maximum supply of about 3.77 billion. The project was co-founded by William Quigley and Jonathan Yantis.
